Can I notify parents or carers when medication has been administered?
Learn how to notify a student's parent or carer following medication administration, or choose to skip the notification.
The iAM Medical feature allows you to notify a student's parent or carer when medication has been administered, helping schools keep families informed and maintain clear communication records.
When recording an ad hoc medication administration, you'll have the option to send a notification or skip this step, depending on your school's policies and whether the parent or carer has already been informed.
How do I notify a parent or carer?
To send a notification following medication administration:
- Navigate to Incidents > Medication within your iAM account.
- Click + Log ad hoc administration record.
- Complete all mandatory fields relating to the medication administration.
- Click Record medication to save the administration.
- Select Send notification to notify the student's parent or carer.
Alternatively, from an individual's record:
- Navigate to Incidents > Register.
- Search for and select the relevant student or staff member.
- Open the Medication tab.
- Click + Log ad hoc administration record.
- Complete all mandatory fields and select Record medication.
- Click Send notification.
Can I record medication without notifying parents or carers?
Yes. You can choose to skip the notification when recording an ad hoc medication administration.
For example, where a parent or carer has already been contacted to obtain consent, your school may decide that an additional notification is unnecessary.
To skip the notification, follow the steps above to record the medication administration, then select Skip instead of Send notification.
The medication administration will still be recorded, even if you choose not to send a notification.
Why might I choose to notify parents or carers?
Notifying parents or carers following medication administration can help your school:
Keep families informed: Provide updates when medication has been administered.
Improve communication: Support clear and consistent communication between school staff and families.
Provide reassurance: Help parents and carers stay informed about their child's healthcare needs.
Support record keeping: Maintain clear medication administration records alongside relevant communications.
Please note: Schools should follow their own medication administration, parental consent and communication policies when deciding whether to send notifications.
